BridgeDna: An Architectural Marvel in Furniture Design

Award-winning Designer Hung Yuan Chang Marries Bridge Construction and Timberwork in Unique Furniture Pieces

BridgeDna is a testament to Chang's exploration of the relationship between bridge structures, construction methods, and timberwork. The designer's intent was to discover and develop the different characteristics of these elements and create visually powerful works. The result is a collection that is not only functional but also serves as a striking piece of art.

The BridgeDna chair, designed with people's needs in mind, features a cambered surface on the back and bottom of the seat for comfort. The round connecting plate, made of Maple, becomes the visual focus of the overall structure. The chair embodies the spirit of a bridge, being light in both visual and physical weight.

Complementing the chair is the BridgeDna table. Made from flat plywood, the table's design conforms to structural design visually. It showcases the strength and beauty of the structure in its form, composed of several large triangles. A tetrahedral box with penetrability allows the structure behind the box to be seen, adding to the table's unique aesthetic. A stop at the bottom of the internal box prevents items from dropping out, demonstrating the designer's attention to practical details.

Both pieces in the BridgeDna collection were realized using Maple, Brass, and laminate bending. The Bridge Console Table measures 94mm in width, 127mm in depth, and 67mm in height. The Bridge Chair measures 53mm in width, 42mm in depth, and 91mm in height. These specifications reflect the designer's commitment to creating furniture that is not only visually appealing but also functional and comfortable.
